Brazilian Architecture Biennale
Intimate Scale

We took a look at the architecture and design of Brasília through the lens of the Brazilian Architecture Biennale in São Paulo.

The project explores a domestic interpretation of Brasília, translating the monumentality of its public architecture to an intimate scale.

The creative project by Debaixo do Bloco Arquitetura was designed by architect Clay Rodrigues, one of our favorite spaces from this first edition of the Biennale.

Developed inside the Biennale Pavilion by Oscar Niemeyer, the space establishes a direct dialogue with the building's structure and landscape.

It incorporates elements such as pilotis, curved surfaces, and continuous planes.

And it also features a curation of modernist Brazilian furniture.

Our attention was drawn to a tapestry by Tarsila do Amaral, reinforcing the connection between architecture, design, and cultural memory.

The project reflects on the tension between the ideal plan and spontaneous growth to create a broader perspective on the territory.

The proposal is to bring Brasília's monumentality to a domestic scale, revealing how this architecture permeates the daily life and memory of those living in the Federal District.

"The space comes from a restrained reading of Brazilian modernism, where the architecture does not seek immediate protagonism, but subtly holds the atmosphere.

The curves reorganize one's view. Filtered light slows down time. Materials come together in silence?concrete, fabric, wood.

There is a clear intention to bring the monumental into the intimate."

Besides representing the city, the pavilion proposes an encounter between architecture and memory.

A space that transforms the monumental gesture into an intimate experience, revealing Brasília as lived experience.
