Biophilic Design

It is difficult - almost impossible - to speak of biophilic design and the integration of nature into the house, without mentioning some Brazilian architects that we admire a lot.

Passarelli Architects @passarelli_arquitetos, Dado Castello Branco @dadocastellobrancochitecture and Bernardes Arquitetura @bernardesarq are some highlights among many of them.

Biophilic design is nothing more than a concept in décor that seeks to bring people closer to nature, creating more welcoming and connected environments.

It values ??natural light, ventilation, the use of organic materials such as wood and stone, and of course a lot of vegetation.

Having plants at home goes beyond aesthetics - they can create the refuge we look for at home so much.

Daily contact with nature is able to reduce stress, improve mood and even increase productivity. In addition, plants help purify the air by creating an environment in which we can recharge the energies.

  • Green, green, and more green: plants are super welcome, of all types and sizes. Why not a green corner in the room or a vertical garden?

  • Sun is life: Enjoy natural light with large windows, light curtains and mirrors to reflect even more light

  • Natural textures: wood, straw, linen ... everything that refers to nature and brings a welcoming touch.

  • Spaces that talk: the integration between the inside and the outside is the key. Glass doors, balconies full of plants or a winter garden make all the difference

Coffee Table Books

Nothing like a good book to bring new inspirations to décor.

Taking advantage of the theme, we gathered some suggestions to dive into the universe of biophilic design and sustainable architecture.

1 Living in Nature: Contemporary Houses in the Natural World, por Phaidon Editors
This book is an invitation to discover houses that connect with nature. Each of the 50 homes presented have something in common: a special relationship with the environment. Organized in four chapters - air, earth, fire and water - The book reveals houses around the world, from North America to Brazil, passing through Japan and New Zealand. It is the perfect bet for those seeking references to integrate natural elements into the house.

2 Green Architecture for a Sustainable Future, por Cayetano Cardelus
Green architecture is the future, and this book brings together 30 international architects that lead this change. With innovative trends and projects that stand out for its sustainable approach, the work offers a complete panorama of what is most current in ecological architecture.

3 Homes for Our Time: Contemporary Houses Around the World, por Philip Jodidio
Exploring unique houses around the world, this book shows how design can be adapted to different realities and environments, always sustainably. From Steel Scaffolding Constructions at Sri Lanka to Casas suspended in Brazil, Homes for Our Time is a trip through projects that respect and dialogue with nature, challenging traditional concepts of architecture.

4 Evergreen Architecture: Overgrown Buildings and Greener Living, por Gestalten
This book explores the growing tendency to integrate vegetation directly into the buildings. With examples of green roofs, living facades and internal plants full of plants, Evergreen Architecture raises interesting questions about how to make nature and architecture coexist in a balanced way.
