El Otro Camino
Marilá Dardot
Entering Marilá Dardot's exhibition is feeling the movement of art as a living experience.
Colorful cloths suspended in the air, between walls and ceiling, like flags that breathe, free, loose.
On linen as base for vibrant industrial colors, over which the artist draws letter after letter, verse after verse, words that resonate dream, desire and memory.
Throughout her collection of phrases, poems and words: dream, is what we see in common as a conductor thread in each one of them.
The exhibition that is the voice of dreams and desires, brings an artwork created from Guadalajara, at the Penitentiária feminina de Almoloya de Juárez, women deprived of freedom embroidered verses of the Cuban poet José Martí and their own dreams: ?Yo sueño con los ojos abiertos y de día??. In a horizon, with silver moon and golden sun, letters entangle on the deep blue of the linen, registering a daily of absence, hope and desire.
These are modest dreams, human, that remind us of the power of expression, even when freedom is limited.
Marilá also captures the work of anonymous hands: hotel employees, delivery drivers, builders, construction workers and the São Paulo Biennial. Each hand prints on the photo their wishes, simple, concrete, but with the strength to transform the perception of the common.
A truck driver, a break for collective vacations, bathrooms or rest areas in a hotel, wishes that, despite simplicity, echo universal experiences of care, comfort and recognition.
And then, the artist invites the city to interact: lollipops in the shape of rockets, distributed in the streets and the gallery, each one accompanied by a colorful napkin with alerts about global warming, forest fires and food insecurity. Between saturated colors and flavors, abacaxi, manga, morango, uva, the gesture becomes a ritual: consume consciously, experience the sweet while connecting to the urgency of the world.
In another layer of work, Marilá walks the routes of public transport in São Paulo to reach Neide, her diarist, in Francisco Morato.
Each metro, each ticket, each wait, registers inequality, routine and persistence. A report that crosses time and space, between metro windows, helicopters and the living narrative of the city, composing the publication Your time in your hands, which gathers memories, photos, poems and journeys in an almost surreal editorial experience.
Me queimo em sonhos, tocando estrelas. Entre o real e o sonho, seremos nós a vertigem.
Marilá Dardot's work places us in the midst of different contexts, allowing us to access voices that we normally wouldn't hear, and at the same time challenges our perception of presence, participation and empathy.
